helllo!!

this is my first time i am posting!! i have just finished my interview with faculty of science!! that's right... i'm gonna continue to become a science student!! for the rest of my student career!!! WHEEEEE..

AND NO! IT'S NOT PHYSICS!!!! IT'S CHEMISTRY!! (enough of kankan, thank you very muchie)

okay, lets talk about my interview... it was.. hmmm.. okay lahh... talked, laughed cried.. the usual stuff.. i've just finished the interview at the science block, now at biz sch with tammy, while she's mugging.. so this is updated at real time!!! HAHA... i am bored... so tam suggested that i go post smth on class blog... since people hardly post..

anyway, back to the interview.. the panel of interviewers, okay, only got 2.. one was an fos alumni, the other was a physics head? lucky i never talk about me hating physics.. HAHA.. if not sure cannot get in.. some of you might ask... how come must go interview.. haha... cause i'm applying through discretionary aka the back door!! never thought i'd get a choice to use it in my life!! so ya... wish me luck okayy.. i really wanna go study for this coming intake... been bumming around enough!! haha...

so ya.. there was the mother of all questions that i asked so many people about it!!!!

Yeah i really hope the christmas party will be fun so everyone must contribute to its success ok! Its a great chance to enjoy for the NS guys and catch up wif the gals who always say that uni is torture but army isn't tat great either.

Update on myself: VERY IMPT!
To everyone out there alive. AVOID SIM LIM SQUARE AT ALL COST!
This is because careless me has lost my PSP due to negligence of less dan 10 minutes. Mr. Thief struck when i was busy for 10mins and disappeared wif my psp without a trace but leaving me a consolation prize by not taking my psp charger. =X

There i was deprived of my only portable entertainment, and so i went on a search for a new gaming buddy. Nelson was nice enuf to go out wif me for my shopping partly he was happy HE PASSED HIS DRIVING TEST. HE'S GONA SPONSOR ICECREAM FOR EVERYONE ON CHRISTMAS. WHOO~ ok i made tat up. And thrifty me went around bugis to look for PSP but coulden find any ended up at simlim sq again.

And so Kaijie was on his quest to find the cheapest psp to replace his stolen one where he chanced upon this shop which offers a really really cheap deal compared to others. A pspslim wif 4gb mem card @ bout 210. Cheap deal huh. Cheat deal more likely.

It came in a laggy system which was so laggy tat sinister actually had to cheek to show it to me. It couldn't even read a mem card less play any games. I was like WHAT THE ****. You are selling a psp that cannot play game. And so the shopkeeper offered me another deal to UPGRADE the psp RAM to 2gb at an addition 188. HOLY CRAP. When i questioned him on why so laggy he said i din ask how much ram there was initially. (suddenly become my fault) And he said 64mb ram was NORMAL for a psp its just that you have to upgrade it to better. If that was the case all PSPs arent suppose to play game normally not unless u upgrade it. WTH. -___-

I eventually had to pay 50bucks to the modification of the psp to plae downloaded games which was completely absurb. Oh well i guess there are people who deserved to be tsunamied much more than others. Oh yeah i applaude his skills to convince and psycho people into buying his products? He talks/acts/looked like a seasoned pro scammer.

And so i'm sharing 3 lessons with you at the cost of my precious 50 bucks which is a cut of my pathetic nsf pay that
1) no cheap deal is a good deal unless you are really sure.
2) when in doubt, DO YOUR HOMEWORK 1ST until u are so sure you can break rule no.1 ( i bet not many of you know that a psp has RAM)
3) at any rate i think the whole simlim square is a tower of scams.

These lessons are apparently more applicable when you are buying bigger toys like cars/hses in the future. vroommm~~

P.S
If i were to sell a car to tat shopkeeper, i would ask him to pay me 50k den give him a thumbdrive den he muz upgrade it by adding wheels, engine, seats, aircon blarr blarr until he can finally drive it. Lame haha, i'm just exaggerating his business tactics. But i guess he's better off dead the world could make do with 1 less ass.

Haven't been blogging for quite a while. I presume everyone is all right? Though i highly doubt that anyone would read this blog again, here is a riddle (kope from somewhere)to test your thought pattern. Will post the answer sometime in the future. (If I remember)

Jane’s grandmother just passed away. It was a tragic death. During the funeral, a handsome young man came to pay his last respect to Jane’s grandmother. Jane doesn’t know who man. She has never seen him before but was instantly attracted to him; she just couldn’t take her eyes off this man.

Just as Jane was going to say ‘hi’ to this handsome young man, her sister, Joanne went up to the man and they embraced. Alas, he is her sister’s friend. They seemed close as Joanne cried on his shoulder while he, in turn, gave her all the comfort she needs.

Jane walked away… in rejection.

2 weeks later, Joanne died. She didn’t die of a natural death. Someone murdered her. Based on preliminary investigation, the murderer seems to be someone within the family.

You must be thinking it’s Jane right? Yeah... it’s Jane who did it. But the question is… why? Why did Jane murder her sister?

Libertarian Congressional Canididate Michael Badnarik teaches a class on Constitutional law which refers to allodial title and uses the MSO as an example to demonstrate that the state is a co-owner of your automobile since they typically possess the MSO. According to Badnarik, in the United States, you do not completely own a vehicle unless you possess this statement, but if you do possess this statement you have allodial title to it and do not owe registration fees or taxes. Australian Man Charged With Driving Wheelchair While Drunk on Highway

Apparently, NASA is paying willing test subjects $17000 for spending 90 days lying in bed, (except for limited times for specific tests) with their body slightly tilted downward (head down, feet up). Every day, they will be awake for 16 hours and lights out (asleep) for 8 hours. Chronicles of vol-ass-no eruption

I am sure we all had our days, the time when our body decides to empty itself via the backdoor… again and again… and again. The rush of those semi-fluid or sometimes fluid substance though our rear canal and finally leaving our body at such a ferocious speed can be a very draining experience.

Perhaps it was due to food poisoning, or perhaps it was just a time the body went on a self-detox mode but whatever it is, the experience is usually not a very pleasant one. However, there are a few backdoor-explosions which are too memorable not to be shared…

Chronicle 1: Race against time

This incident took place more than 7 years ago and I was attending a friend’s wedding dinne in one of the hotel in KL. No, it was not a shot-gun marriage; my friend is 12 years my senior.

Anyway, it was the end of the dinner and a bunch of us, feeling a bit tipsy decided to head to the loo for a piss. Yeah, for some strange reason, guys do this go-toilet-together act too. As we entered into the gents, one of us shouted “look-out!” and pointed to the floor.

Resting on the floor were drops of a certain brownish substance which I do not need to elaborate. As we head further into the gents, traces of this substance got more and more, you can tell that the substance was oozing from one’s back-hole and keeping it in was getting increasingly difficult.

The trace led us to the first cubicle; it’s obvious that this person is in a rush. The door of the cubicle was half opened. I do not know why but one of us pushed open the door and there we saw it, the aftermath of the disaster.

I have to admit, the signs of the aftermath shown on the wall of the cubicle was so exquisite that one can actually consider it a work of art. I brief forensic investigation by us suggest that the person probably removed his pants in a flash and as soon as his pants were down, the brain instantly told the relevant muscles that it’s time to let loose and as such……the firing began, albeit a controlled one.

This controlled firing left a trail on the side of the cubicle all the way to the back. We concluded that the brain of that poor soul can no longer take the stress and as soon as the back-side was facing the back of the cubicle, the final shot was made… and it was made before that person managed to sit down on the toilet bowl.

From the sight of the wall, without a doubt… this one ended in a “bang”.

Chronicle 2: Don’t guess unless you’re sure it’s gas

There was this girl (yes, it’s a she this time), and she was quite the hated soul in the company she worked in. One beautiful day, after having a meal, her bowel began to act up quite a bit. You know the feeling as though something is inside your bowel and it is running up and down causing intense pain and before you know it, you have to head to the toilet already.

As she was having this pain in her tummy, she felt a certain amount of gas coming out from her tummy… through her back-passage… about to leave the back-cave. Ya’ know, sometimes you need to fart but you happened to be in public so you have to be discreet. As such, you try to control the speed of your fart by slowly releasing it.

She must have been trying to do that but just as she was about to let loose her air-pollutant; the activities in her stomach suddenly send a powerful rush of ‘liquid’ through the same passage-way and thus… when she released her air-pollutant… so released her ‘other stuff’ as well.

I was told she sat there and refused to get up. Her colleagues had to push her chair together with her to the toilet while other colleagues went and bought her new panty and pants. Since she is quite a hated soul… she must have been the laughing point of the office for the longest time.

So next time, if you are not sure if it’s entirely gas… do not guess…

Chronicle 3: Know your priority

Diarrhoea in your dictionary is probably extreme release of fluid or semi-fluid substance from your asshole. Very often, it is caused by food poisoning. When the food poisoning is a severe one, you will not only keep shitting, you will also be puking your guts out.

A story was told about a girl who had the food poisoning experience of her life. In the middle of the night, she felt the activities in her stomach and she knew the vol-ass-no eruption is going to happen anytime. She rushed to the toilet and she was quick enough to sit down before the eruption took place. However, while things were rushing out from the backside, she also started to puke… and it was a very bad puke too!

So there she was, feeling weak after a vol-ass-no eruption, she still had to clean the toilet. Must have been a very horrible feeling… the smell of her puke… and probably still feeling the sore from the eruption in the ‘hole’…

Half-way while cleaning, she suddenly felt the second wave coming… both the front and the back. Now, here is the predicament… should one sit and let the frontal eruption let loose on the toilet floor or should one choose to puke in the toilet bowl and try to hold the back-door till you finish puking?

My friend… let’s just say, you must prioritise your ass!

What is a billion?

OK. That was too easy. We now move on to Round 2. This one is harder because this time it's a professor from Quebec who makes the error, and professors are very good at making simple errors sound like complicated logic.The story is about a recent vote in Quebec, where the plan was to decrease the legal blood alcohol level from 0.08% to 0.05%. He makes an argument that several other countries have made this switch already, and that the EU is going to adopt the 0.05% limit in 2009. Then Susan asks him, "What impact would the new law have on the number of traffic accidents in Quebec?" Here is his response. There are a lot of numbers, so pay attention.

Currently (with the limit of 0.08), 6 percent of accidents caused by drivers with alcohol in their blood are caused by those with a blood alcohol level between 0.05% and 0.08%. That's about 12 deaths and 80 serious injuries per year. Therefore, lowering the legal limit to 0.05% would decrease the number of deaths by about 12 and the number serious injuries by about 80.Can you spot the BS?

Just another seemingly flawed but plausible logic on the net. For your everyday dose of thinking..

"How long will I live for?" Most people want to know the answer. Let's call this answer X; that's what a mathematician would do. X is a variable, some number; let's measure it in years. We would like to know what X is. Is it 60, 80, 100? It's hard to give a good estimate - there is too much uncertainty. When mathematicians are faced with uncertainty, they whip out a tool called probability theory. Sounds fancy, but it's just a way of dealing with things we don't know exactly.

A mathematician would call X a random variable - something whose value we don't know exactly. But we have some rough idea of what the value of of this random variable is. We know it's bigger than 0 and smaller than 200 (assuming no one invents an immortality serum any time soon). There is still a lot of room between 0 and 200. Can we narrow it down a bit more? Well, what probability theory would say is that we are looking for the expected value of X - "How long can I expect to live for?"

There are many ways of getting a good estimate of this expected value. I could, for example, find the average life length of all the people who have died, or just those who have died in the past year and have lived in the same country as me. I could even throw out the women's numbers and just average the men's. (Women seem to live longer for some reason.) That's what I would call computing my life expectancy - another name for the expected value of X.

So what is this number good for? Well, I would like it to be larger, if possible; wouldn't you? Most of the decisions you make in life have an effect on this number - your life expectancy. If you run across the road on a red light, there is a small probability that you will get hit by a car, so you decrease your life expectancy slightly. This change is so small that you probably don't even give it a thought. For example, if you are 20, and your life expectancy is 80, and there is a probability of 1 in 10 million of getting hit by a car while running across the road, then you have just decreased your life expectancy by about a minute an a half. If running across the street has saved you 2 minutes of waiting for a green light at the crosswalk, then you have made a good choice. Of course, I pulled the probability of 1 in 10 million out of... thin air, so judge for yourself. My point is - lots of decisions affect your life expectancy every day.

So what does the TSA have to do with any of this? I'm glad you asked. I have just had the privilege of going through airport security in North America. (Somebody from Europe, please tell me you don't put up with this idiocy over there.) I had to take off my shoes. If that's not annoying enough, they confiscated my toothpaste, all 1/2 a tube of it. Silly me for forgetting that carrying toothpaste onto a plane is illegal.

Let's think about why they took my toothpaste. One way to look at it is to realise that the TSA's job is ensuring my safety. In our mathematical language, their job is to keep my life expectancy high. There once was a vague threat of a terrorist attack on a plane that involved a vague mention of a liquid explosive. Even though the plot was debunked as implausible, some TSA officials have made a mental connection between "liquid explosives" and "toothpaste" and enacted a rule banning toothpaste from planes. The reasoning probably went something like this - if this rule manages to prevent just one terrorist attack and saves just one life, then the minor inconvenience of having to surrender toothpaste at the gate has been worth it. In other words, this rule increases the life expectancy of at least one person, which is good. (Or so they must have thought.)

If this is the reasoning that they used, then I claim that they are quite wrong. Let's imagine that there is a homicidal maniac who is smart enough to cook up a liquid explosive so powerful that half a toothpaste tube of it could do terminal damage to an airplane. Let's also imagine that this individual is willing to destroy an airplane and kill himself in the process. Let's also imagine that he manages to pass through security and just happens to end up on the same flight as me. What do you think are the chances of all of this happening? One in a million? One in a billion? Less than that? I don't know; let's call this probability P for now.

Now consider a completely different scenario. A TSA employee confiscates my toothpaste at the airport. I spend 3 days on a trip brushing my teeth without toothpaste. I get back home, and there are emails to read, bills to pay and work to do, so I forget to buy a new tube of toothpaste for another 3 days. That's almost a week of poor dental hygiene. So I get a cavity, and a tooth infection, which spreads to my brain and kills me. Unlikely, you say? Sure. But how unlikely? What are the chances of that? One in a million? One in a hundred thousand? In other words, if a hundred thousand people did not use tooth paste for a week, do you think one of them would get a serious tooth infection? A fatal one? I don't know; let's call the probability of this turn of events Q.

If P is larger than Q, then the TSA's rule increases my life expectancy. If Q is larger than P, then the rule hurts my life expectancy. We can argue about this, but there is a more fundamental observation. Is P large enough for me to even care? Think back to crossing the street on a red light. The probability of getting hit by a car was so small that you didn't even care to think about it. Crossing the street illegally shortens your life expectancy by a minute and a half. How many seconds do you think the hypothetical toothpaste maniac would shave off of my life expectancy? I claim that P is so small that the time that the TSA's stupid toothpaste rule has added to my life expectancy is much, much smaller than the time it would take me to go to Safeway and buy a new tube of toothpaste. Mathematically, the rule makes no sense.

I can make the same argument against the take-off-your-shoes rule and the super-sensitive metal detector rule that makes me empty my pockets and take off my belt.

So what is the price of saving one person's life, as measured in toothpaste? It's probably much smaller than you think, if you think in terms of probability.

hey people!

service learning was fun and exciting!!!

okay anyway, i took some videos using my phone. well, not exactly videos, but more of i recorded our performances (just the voices) - If we hold on together, Top of the world and Happy Birthday song + nelson&matt's performance. BUT i have no idea how to convert the file type to something that can be viewed from the comp? I tried playing from media player but couldnt! anyway can help me? the earlier you tell me, then the faster i can upload the videos onto our blog, and you guys can listen to our beautiful voices! hehe.
